AM4[2] is the upcoming fourth studio album by Ava Max.
Background
In an interview with The Burnouts published on August 28, 2025, Max stated that she had begun working on her fourth studio album and would start recording it in September.[3]
On December 1, 2025, Ava posted a short video on Instagram with songwriter and producer, Arthur Besna.
On December 3, 2025, with the release of her Spotify Wrapped fan message, Ava teased upcoming music set for 2026.
On December 17, 2025, Ava posted a photo to her Instagram stories of her in a studio session in a Los Angeles APG Music Recording Studio.[4]
On January 4, 2026, Max made a post with the caption "new year new what?" and liked a comment on Instagram that said "New album!!"
On February 10, 2026, Max cleared her Instagram posts, uploading a photo of the Queen of England blowing bubblegum with the caption "God save the Queen" with a crown symbol. Her Instagram profile photo was changed to be this same photo, hinting at the release of the album’s lead single.[5] Max had previously teased the song’s title, commenting "Kill it Queen!" with a crown emoji on multiple posts by other female artists in the industry.[6]
On February 13, Max posted a behind-the-scenes look of the photoshoot for "Kill It Queen", with the song's first official snippet playing in the background. The post was captioned "So it begins..." with a knife emoji, confirming the official start of the AM4 era.[7] The next day, Max posted another photo from an AM4 photoshoot, commenting "had to put on bulletproof outfits for this new music."[8]
In the promotional photos for "Kill It Queen", Max has a small star drawn under her right eye. Max's updated logo for the era has two stars in it, hinting at a possible album title or theme. After an interview with Max, Variety described the era's visuals as "“circus freak” with a theatrical bent."[9]
In her interview with Variety on February 23, Variety confirmed that Max's fourth album would be releasing in 2026. In this interview, Max confirmed that she would continue with pop music for the album. Max also stated that she was working on collaborations for the album.[9]
In an interview with Forbes after the release of "Kill It Queen", Max stated, "I think this album is more cohesive than any of my other albums past...it has a very specific theme. There's a lot of influences from my childhood that I haven't used yet in my music, and we are using it now for the first time. But yeah, this is the introduction track almost, if you can call it that way. Then there's more similar to this, but even crazier."[10]
When asked about the album's release date via Instagram Live on March 3, 2026, Max replied, "I don't know yet. I'm still working on it."[11]
In a livestream on March 18, Max stated that the album’s second single was her favorite song at the moment, claiming that the song was about her "being out of my mind", inspired by difficulties throughout the past year. Max also stated throughout the livestream that she was finishing up the album and was excited to share what she believes to be some of the best music she's ever made.[12]
On March 23, Max posted snippets of two AM4 songs on her TikTok, commenting "no samples in this one...sorry no samples in this one either".[13] The first snippet previewed "Why Aren’t You Dead Yet”, and the second previewed "Out Of Your Mind".
On March 26, Max revealed the official titles of the two previously teased songs, writing "What a catastrophe!! pick your poison: outta your mind or why aren't you dead yet".[14]
On March 30, Max posted about the album on her alternate X account @avamaxsucks, stating that “there’s no tracklist because I’m not even done”, referring to a rumored tracklist which had leaked later in the week. She also addressed these leaks, stating “I don't know how many times I have to say this but leaking stuff before I'm even finished with it is not right.” She also wrote, “when music leaks, it ruins a lot and can even make a song get scrapped. Love you guys but please. Just be patient.” Max deleted the posts later that day.[15]
After teasing new music throughout late March and early April, Max announced on April 13 that "Out Of Your Mind" would be released as the second single from AM4 that upcoming Wednesday.[16] Upon announcing the song, Max faced widespread backlash for using a fanmade AI photo for the song's single cover and ultimately changed the cover back to its original photo the day it released, stating that she was unaware that the photo had been AI-generated.
On April 16, Max hosted a Q&A on X, where she stated that the album was “a work in progress but it’s coming”. Max stated that every other song would likely be stylized like "KiLL iT QUEEN", but that it would have driven her crazy to do so with every single. Max also reaffirmed that she had “a lot of collabs coming”[17] and responded to a fan that the album consisted of “thicker” songs when it came to production, with the exception of one song.[18] When asked if she would release any dark pop songs, Max responded “Duh! But not in the next 2 months lol… maybe 3? I’ll try to expedite it”, indicating that the album would likely release in the late summer or fall.[19] Max also stated that her favorite song from the era hadn’t come out yet.[20]
After taking a break from social media the week after the release of "Out Of Your Mind", Max teased the album on TikTok, stating "new music soon hallelujah".[21]
Around April 30, Lollipop Star, the brand which had previously manufactured Max's "Out Of Your Mind" musical lollipops for Coachella, announced a preorder for a set of lollipops featuring Max's music.[22] Max's lollipops, which are strawberry flavored, will likely feature songs from AM4, as the brand often sells products containing "studio session" or upcoming music. Max's lollipop line sold out the day it was announced despite no specific songs being listed.
Max returned to social media on May 20, posting photos of herself at an art museum with the caption "eat your art out".[23] On May 25, Max posted more photos from what appeared to be another museum with the caption "if no one is around you", with both posts fitting AM4's theatrical theme.[24] Later that day, Alan Walker teased an upcoming track with Max at one of his shows.[25]
